Re: Star Media Group suspends publication of Sway magazine

We are announcing today that Star Media Group is suspending publication of Sway magazine due to economic conditions that have resulted in weak advertising revenues. The last issue will be the July 2012 edition.

The decision will affect one full-time employee at Star Media Group as well as several people who worked on the magazine on individual contracts.

Sway, a lifestyle magazine published quarterly for African and Caribbean Canadians, was launched in the winter of 2005. It had a circulation of 50,000 through distribution arrangements at specific locations and retail outlets in the Greater Toronto Area.

I want to stress that Star Media Group remains committed to providing in-depth news and information of specific interest to the black community in the Greater Toronto Area. Two prime examples of this commitment are our recent coverage of Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival, of which the Toronto Star was the Official Newspaper, and the special section marking the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence that appeared in June in the Star.
